1963 Framus Strato Deluxe Factory Left-Handed – Possibly the Only Known Example
Offered here is an exceptionally rare 1963 Framus Strato Deluxe factory left-handed guitar.
To the best of my knowledge, and after years of collecting and dealing in vintage left-handed instruments, this is the only factory left-handed example currently known to exist.
This guitar comes directly from the family of its original owner. I purchased it from the grandson of the U.S. serviceman who bought it new while stationed in Germany in the early 1960s. He later brought the guitar back to the United States, where it remained in the family and spent most of its life unplayed.
The instrument has recently been professionally serviced by Valentin Novo, including:
Complete setup
Fret polishing
Electronics cleaned and serviced
New strings installed
It is now an extremely enjoyable guitar to play, with a comfortable action and fully functional electronics.
A note regarding the headstock construction: some buyers unfamiliar with these early Framus instruments may find it unusual. However, a quick comparison with other vintage Framus Strato Deluxe examples will reveal the same characteristic two-piece headstock construction.
Cosmetically, the guitar shows honest wear consistent with its age. There are some small paint traces visible on a few knobs and switches, nothing that affects functionality and likely removable with a bit of careful cleaning if desired.
The striking red finish, pearloid pickguard, chrome control plate and unmistakable German design make this one of the coolest European guitars of the 1960s—and in this configuration, almost certainly one of the rarest.
Whether you’re a serious collector of vintage European instruments, a left-handed player looking for something truly unique, or simply someone who appreciates obscure guitar history, opportunities like this rarely come along.
